Dear Morris,
...there we were a few months ago, new parents, so cute thinking you kept us SO busy Oh boy, were we wrong. This month, you’ve shown us just how busy this household is about to get! YOU ARE EVERYWHERE. Your crawl has become lightening speed, carrying you quickly from one place to the next so you can explore everything that moves, opens, closes, or provides power. You pull yourself up to stand on every surface you can, reaching for anything nearby and trying to balance with it in your hand as you hold on with the other, especially the TV remote. So many colored buttons you can press and such a cool sound when you slam it on the ground and the pieces go flying . You have the cutest little wobble and deal with your falls like a champ because oh boy have there been some inevitable falls. You get back up after a quick cuddle and have developed no fear in the meantime, lunging off of the couch and bed on your belly as we scramble to grab your feet to at least try and assist in making it as graceful, as possible.
More and more you’re proving to us your baby days are numbered You are developing so fast and becoming so smart, picking up fingers foods with your tiny pincher fingers, drinking from your sippy cup independently, and getting so good at your big kid routine of brushing your teeth and taking your vitamins at night. If we make a obstacle course of towers, you’ll power crawl through it to knock them all down with a huge grin. When we cover our heads with a blanket, you’ll rip that blanket down with a loud, hearty laugh to reveal us underneath. We could listen to that sound forever. When mama puts your pacifier in her mouth you yank it out, put it in yours, and then giggling, put it back in her mouth. You love when papa makes a cave of comforters for you to hide underneath or when he yells “shark attack” and gently wrestles you around. In those moments that joyful smile of yours is so wide that you can see all six of your growing teeth! Those teeth now assist you in one of your favorite times of day- eating! You are such a good eater, making adorable little sounds (or loud robust yells, ha) of joy as you go. Most recently, you’ve discovered bread and like a true Dutchie, you’d love to eat it for every meal
This month you also celebrated your first Halloween and enjoyed the beautiful fall season, playing in the leaves and exploring real pumpkins! Watching you take in every little sensory experience makes mama’s heart explode even more than when she experiences the same with her six year old kiddos at school. She could watch you watch and touch the world, all day. Especially while on your first bike ride in your own bike seat this month. You gazed all around through the beautiful, grassy dunes, passing various animals and small lakes, to end up at the beach.
It’s crazy to me that so much happened for you this month all whilst you were sick, still adjusting to daycare, and teething. You are one resilient little guy and we are so proud of you. Daycare will keep getting easier and those strange faces will become more familiar. Until then I’ll just keep telling myself that the separation anxiety you (and me ) are feeling are just a reflection of our special bond and a positive sign for your development. You have your whole childhood to enjoy school so it’s perfectly fine if you prefer home now. Psh, why wouldn’t you? Thanks to Corona, it’s like mom and dad are ALWAYS there
...and off onto nine months you go, already with even more little milestones listed in mom’s phone (as she’s two weeks late posting this. Oops.) Just like Victor in one your favorite books, Taxi Ride with Victor, you are a natural at bringing happiness, Morris Kuiper. Even amongst a pandemic. We love you.
(A sincere apology but also applause for anyone else who read this far. Perhaps someday the baby spam will be met with travel photos once again. Until then I’m afraid as my obsession deepens, the updates only lengthen )
Love, Mama
